His academic background includes Bronx High School of Science, Binghamton University, and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He has worked at both private law firms and public interest organizations. Early Life and Background
Ethan was born in 1995 and raised on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Growing up in a multicultural household with dual citizenship in the United States and France, he was influenced by values centered on discipline, responsibility, and service. His parents ran a hospitality business in New York City, and their work ethic and leadership had a lasting impact on his professional outlook.
Early Education and the Foundation of Legal Curiosity
Ethan began his academic path at the Bronx High School of Science, where he competed in athletics, ran track, and was an active member of the school’s mock trial team, which won a state championship. These early experiences introduced him to legal reasoning and public speaking.
He began his undergraduate studies in New Orleans, where he also volunteered with a nonprofit organization that supports boys who have lost their fathers. He later transferred and completed his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Law in December 2017.
Formative Legal Experience
Before starting law school, Ethan worked in legal settings that sparked his interest in the profession. He served as a paralegal at a business immigration law firm located on Wall Street, where he learned about immigration processes and legal documentation. He also interned for a judge at the New York County Supreme Court Civil Branch, where he observed courtroom procedures and provided support with legal tasks.
These early positions gave him insight into both litigation and administrative processes, preparing him for future legal studies.
Legal Education and Public Service Focus
In 2018, he enrolled at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. During his time there, he joined the Cardozo Mediation Clinic, where he mediated civil and small claims cases in local courts.
Attorney Ethan Ruby also served as an Associate Editor of the Cardozo Arts and Entertainment Law Journal, where he strengthened his legal writing and research skills. He completed internships at several public service organizations, supporting legal aid and defense efforts.
Building a Career in Labor Law and Insurance Defense
After graduating from law school in May 2021 and passing the New York Bar, he began working in areas including labor law, negligence defense, and insurance litigation.
Ethan's first role after law school was as a Law Clerk at a law firm, where he worked on personal injury and general negligence cases. He drafted pleadings, prepared discovery responses, assisted with depositions, and negotiated with insurance companies.
In December 2021, he became an Associate at another firm, representing construction and insurance clients. His work focused on motion practice, discovery, medical record review, and reporting case progress to clients.
By January 2023, he joined a new firm where he managed a high volume of labor law and tort claims. Many of these matters involved significant financial exposures and complicated risk transfer. His duties included depositions, court appearances, site inspections, and arguments on motions.
Current Role at National Claim Services
In September 2024, Ethan joined National Claim Services LLC, a division of CRC Insurance Services, as a Senior Claim Specialist. This position allows him to combine his legal experience and insurance knowledge to manage complex claims involving Labor Law, bodily injury, property damage, and construction-related matters.
In this role, he works closely with external counsel, insured clients, and investigators. He manages claims from start to resolution, evaluates liability, identifies risk transfer opportunities, and resolves cases through mediation, arbitration, or trial.
Professional Credentials and Continuing Education
Along with his admission to the New York State Bar, Ethan holds licenses as an Independent Insurance Adjuster, a Certified Public Notary, and a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson. He continues to complete continuing legal education (CLE) credits in multiple legal subjects to stay current with industry developments.
